Kagiso Asset Management's brand identity took shape after a process of in-depth strategic research. The clear point of difference that came out of this research was that Kagiso Asset Management applies unconventional thinking to everything it does - with superior performance as a result.

This concept is conveyed through our pay-off line: Unconventional thinking. Superior performance.

It is also communicated through the use of visual concepts, such as the 'Rolling Bridge', 'Shiba Mosque', 'Sketch Furniture' and 'Piano and Violin Building'. These images clearly demonstrate the concept that 'thinking differently often results in exceptional outcomes'.

Rather than a conventional opening bridge, typically comprised of simple rigid elements that move to allow the passage of boats below, the Rolling Bridge takes a different approach. Its creators sought a more sensual way for the bridge to open.

As it opens, the bridge gently curls up, segment by segment, until its two ends join to form an octagonal shape that bears little resemblance to its former self.

The Rolling Bridge is the only curling bridge of its kind and the result of a combination of art and science.

Swedish design team FRONT demonstrated well the concept of 'thinking differently often results in exceptional outcomes' when they married art and science in a highly unexpected way. They developed a unique technique in which they could transform the freehand drawings that they sketched in the air with light, into real pieces of furniture.

They did this through the use of 'Motion Capture' to record their actions as 3D digital files and then used Rapid Prototyping to realize these files as physical items of furniture.

The Shiba Mosque in Abu Dhabi is a low energy prototype mosque scheme that houses prayer, ablution and residential accommodation under a series of interlocking white shell structures, all of which are cooled in the desert heat via a stack effect that is created by openings in the dome. The result: a harmonious combination of beauty and unconventional thinking.

Special thanks:

Mangera Yvars Architects for allowing us to use their photography of the Shiba Mosque.

This image was chosen as it demonstrates an unconventional solution to a building. This unique piano house was recently built in An Hui Province, China. Inside the violin is the escalator to the building. The building displays various city plans and development prospects in an effort to draw interest to the recently developed area.
