We aim to make a meaningful and sustainable impact on previously disadvantaged communities through our corporate social investment activities. Since we believe that an effective way to promote sustainable access to the economy is through education, most of our efforts are focused on empowering beneficiaries through educational and skills development initiatives.
Featured initiative: Intyatyambo Community Project
We have supported the Intyatyambo Community Project – an educare centre based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town – since 2013. The project provides a safe environment for vulnerable children to learn, play and develop. Intyatyambo employs and trains members from the local community to provide quality day care for children from two months to six years old. All the children receive three balanced meals daily, ensuring that their dietary requirements are met. Children infected with HIV receive their antiretrovirals and any other medication that they might need.
What started as a tiny tin shed on the side of the road in 2006 has grown and evolved into a well-respected social project registered with the Department of Social Development, providing an essential and much-needed service for up to 100 children from the local community.
In 2012, Intyatyambo started raising funds for a new building and secure playground for the children. In support of this endeavour, we were pleased to sponsor the roofing and plastering of the walls for the new educare centre, which was launched in 2013. In 2015, we were able to sponsor the placement of outdoor rubber safety matting for the concrete floor in the playground area, ensuring a safe environment in which to play and tumble.
